Last time I was at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, I visited The ‘Hockney – Van Gogh: The Joy of Nature’
exhibition. A spectacular exhibition offering an extensive and colorful exploration of the common ground between the work of Vincent van Gogh and David Hockney.
I was not disappointed by the bright color explosion. The Huge ( panel) paintings drive me into a vivid ( real) landscape like I was suddenly placed into the Mary Poppins or the Wizard of Oz film!
Mixed together, Van Gogh & Hockney’s paintings, revealed the parallels between their works. Both inspired by nature turned into their own bold & bright reality, that completely matches my own! 🙂
What really into got my eyes and dived my into this bright colorful, drawn landscape was the fact that the paintings were hanging on matching colorful walls! Yes, Far away from a classic white cube, The museum walls were subtly painted purple, orange or yellow, reinforcing this diving into the colors.
Pictures were not allowed, unfortunately. so you’ll have to take my word for it that this exhibition really brought the joy of nature into my eyes!
